Visual SourceSafe is a centralized version control system developed by Microsoft Corporation for managing source code and related files. Aimed primarily at small to midsize teams on Windows, it provides check-in/check-out workflows, version history, labels, branching, and the ability to share or pin files across projects. It integrates with Visual Studio and other development tools via the Microsoft Source Code Control Interface (MSSCCI), includes built-in diff and merge utilities, and offers administrative features such as user permissions, project archiving/restoring, and database analysis and repair. Repositories are file-based and typically hosted on a network share, enabling simple setup but limiting scalability compared with modern systems.

Visual SourceSafe was widely used in the 1990s and early 2000s; the 2005 release introduced optional Internet access through IIS and stability improvements. The product is now discontinued, and Microsoft recommends migrating to alternatives such as Team Foundation Version Control or Git (through Azure DevOps or GitHub). Today, Visual SourceSafe is primarily relevant for maintaining legacy codebases that still depend on it.

Visual SourceSafe is developed by Microsoft. The most popular versions of this product among our users are: 1.0 and 6.0. The names of program executable files are Icon07615BC6.exe, Icon2B1F938F.exe, Icon2BD15E3C.exe and SSADMIN.EXE.

You can check Code Visual Editor, Visual IRC, Visual-MinGW and other related programs like Daffodil for Visual Studio at the "download" section.
